Before first use (unopened pens): Store in a refrigerator at 2C to 8C Keep in the original carton to protect from light Do not freeze freezing destroys the medication Store away from the freezer compartment to prevent accidental freezing Check the expiry date on the carton and pen label regularly For travel, use validated cool/insulated storage to maintain refrigeration After first use (opened pens): Once you've administered your first dose, storage requirements become more flexible: May be stored at room temperature (below 30C) or continued in the refrigerator (2C to 8C) Must be used within 6 weeks (42 days) of first use, regardless of storage method Keep the pen cap on when not in use to protect from light Never freeze discard if accidentally frozen Store away from direct heat sources (radiators, windowsills, hot vehicles) Avoid exposure to direct sunlight General storage advice: Always remove the needle after each injection and dispose of it safely in a sharps container
